Well, maybe if we start manufacturing goods in the good ol' US of A, once again, then we can put a few people to work, even though I can't imagine who would want to the hire the FSA.

If, in fact, the price of imports goes up, is that the end of US consumerism? If there never was any recovery to begin with, can there really be an end of it?
The really big dilemma for the Fed is, when you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't, what do you do? Get out ahead of everyone else. But, get out of what, dodge? Where do you go?
The only seemingly acceptable solution for the top 1% would seem to be the implementation of a police state, which, I believe can be shown to be as feasible as universal health care. We are not the British, nor Canadian. Nor are we sheep;

Whitehouse.gov - Something to think about this Thanksgiving:
I get e-mail updates from the left because I like to know what the other side is up to, most of it is pretty nauseating, but I still keep up with WH public communications. This was in my inbox this morning.

After extolling the virtues of food stamps, the last paragraph blames Republicans for attempting to cut SNAP. I'm reminded of two things this Thanksgiving, the truism "give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime." SNAP is nothing more than Welfare 2.0, and the Obama administration has been recruiting people to sign up. Literally attempting to bankrupt our socialist system. "70% since 2008 to a record 47.8 million as of December 2012" as discussed in this [url=http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424127887323699704578328601204933288]WSJ article[/url].
The second thing that comes to mind, are the reports of abuses in the SNAP program, as discussed in this [url=http://www.freedomworks.org/blog/andrewmontgomery39/top-10-reasons-food-stamps-need-to-be-reformed]Freedom Works blog post[/url]. While the left claims waste, fraud, and abuse in the program is a "myth".
I'm all for helping the poor, I just don't feel our government has the responsibility to do it. When did we lose sight of the principles enshrined in the preamble of the Declaration of Independence,
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. Geek Resilience « The Burning Platform
Billy's like a tree hugger who drives around in his Subaru/Prius/Tesla telling everyone else carbon fuels are useless.
Flash, why a Kindle? It's a locked version of Android. Why not a Nexus? Then you can get the Kindle app, including one for the Chrome browser, and it keeps everything in sync, including the furthest page read. I've been reading some survivalist lit including Lucifer's Hammer, an oldie, but goodie. Also some Archer Garrett, Matthew Bracken, Max Velocity, gotta love free downloads. Then I don't mind spending a few dollars to catch the rest in a series.
Luckily for RE, there's enough coffee shops around, that in TEOTWAWKI, some of them will surely survive.
I've added HAM radio to my preps. Currently 2m and may expand to HF. Building a go box with switchable power, etc. I want to be able to at least monitor UHF/HF communication. EMP's, solar flares, etc. are a concern, and I may put some redundant electronics in a faraday box, including USB drives, etc.
The most likely scenario requires economic survival, i.e. maintaining an income to pay the bills while the US reverts to the mean, and hopefully wakes up from the dystopian nightmare of socialist neo-feudalism. Not very likely, so individual preps take on that much more importance.

LIBERAL FASCISM MARCHES ON « The Burning Platform
Every succeeding POTUS since Reagan has been progressively worse, which is when the deficit spending curve began it's current trajectory, to the point where we're on the vertical leading edge of it.
Tax and spend liberals have become borrow and spend fascists.
The US Government is the largest unionized work force in the world. Of course they're going to put a boot on your neck to protect their pensions. They're pensions go the way of the dollar, and a valid argument can be made to suggest the US foreign policy has been all about preserving the status of the dollar as the world's reserve currency. How many lives is that worth. It depends who you ask.
If Americans wanted a change, they would have voted for Ron Paul, but his voice wasn't allowed to be heard by the Romney campaign, which played just about as dirty as politics gets. On par with what is going on in WI.
You've got to love the hypocrisy of politics, it's ok if I do it, because the other side does it. WTF, over?

UNMITIGATED DISASTER « The Burning Platform
When it all goes to stew, everyone will be impacted. It shouldn't feel good.
I'm high enough on the food chain to realize civil unrest will destabilize our society should status quo fail. I'm in favor of reform versus failure.
While it may come to failure, I haven't neglected preparing for the worst. I could have prepared better for the latter.
I would like to see a better future for my children. The boomer crisis will have played out within the next 5 - 10 years, not 20. The GFC, the administration's subsequent erroneous response (GB II), and the current administration's response to bailing out wall street by helping themselves to the public till, has hastened the inevitable. Whether we have decades of stagnant growth remains to be seen.
When people aren't working, there's only so long before the burden can be carried no longer by the working poor. The FSA will be the first to revolt, then those who have benefited the most from profligate public spending will pull the rip cord, and it will be up to those of us who remain to clean up the mess.
The status quo would prefer to install a police state, and are working hard to that end. Given the success rate of government programs to date, I don't give them much chance of success, even if they declare war on the American people, which historically would appear to be the only thing they're good at. We're not native American Indians with no education or training, or ME camel jockeys. With the exception of the FSA, most of us excel beyond that of our peers and the typical government drone.
They don't even have enough sense to get out of the way, which is the only thing they really need to do. It will happen, but by what impetus remains to be seen, even if it means TEOTWAWKI.

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING « The Burning Platform
Anyone care to forecast for 12 months? Last Jan 1st was the sequester, long term unemployment cuts, and the expiration of the Bush II tax cuts.
This year it was going to be the ACA employer mandate, but that was too risky in an election season so it was postponed, but there’s still the individual mandate.
The numbers I keep seeing for borrowing don’t add up to the deficit numbers. 3 years ago 11 0f 50 states were technically bankrupt with an aggregate $280B budget deficit which must be closed. Did they magically turn the corner on their budgets?
This year’s circus will be soley focused on the November mid terms, with all eyes on every last seat. TE forecast 50% incumbent wins, Sensetti forecast 98%. It really depends on the stock market. TPTB know how to rock the vote. Even then, they can’t materialize wealth out of thin air while they continue the pillage of the US Treasury. The end game being rentier interest payments in perpetuity, for money they literally printed.
I still say abolish the Fed, print $16T and pay off the debt and establish a balanced budget amendment. This doesn’t address over $200T in unfunded federal obligations, so, re-negotiate them. We’ll be whole within 10 years with limitless prosperity on the horizon once the feds are out of the way. Otherwise, we’re looking at totalitarian dictatorship.
It’s hard to forecast the next 12 months, but for sure we’ll be in a worse place, notwithstanding QE to infinity. They’ll keep printing through 2016 and beyond, because they don’t have any choice. The rest of the world may stop taking dollars, which makes the fight for control of the middle east that much more important, and as soon as you factor in the geo politics of energy, the world becomes a scarier place. We may even have to start pumping our own oil out of the ground.
How does this play out for the global elite? Fine as long as the US is hamstrung by debt, which brings me back to my original suggestion, abolish the fed, pay off the debt, and re-negotiate unfunded obligations, which means basically all retirees will be on SS and Medicaid, which, is, as it should be.
Clear for now.

We are fighting the same enemy today, yet, our Constitution which limits the right of government is being used to limit individual rights. The only recourse is to stand against the wiles of the adversary.

God has given us all we need to prosper and overcome evil, it is only up to us to claim what is rightfully ours, and rebuke the evil that is in the world.

With God's help, the ACA will be the albatross which lands the tea party in control of both houses.
Next year's elections, and January's swearings in can't come too soon.
However, it's only with God's help it will make any difference. There are already too many Rhino's in office, sold out to the highest corporate bidder.
With God's help, too, the TPP will fail.
It's worthwhile to consider this, if it was within man to save himself, Jesus Christ would need not have died on the cross. It stands to reason, then, too, that God would also be able to save this great nation, as a beacon of hope for those who have none. Contrary to athiest views of Carl Sagan, it is the height of arrogance for man to assume that he made himself, or that he is able to save himself. God wants to be our savior, and he is willing. The alternative is death.
There is an enemy, and if one is unwilling or unable to recognize, and accept this truth, then we truly are doomed to repeat the mistakes of history.
