Gilberts, while most of the FSA will fall into the category you've described, there will be the wolf packs, hardened inner city young males, packed 4 into a car, probably high jacked and likely armed. They'll be looking for any target of opportunity.
I expect neighborhoods and small towns will barricade roads where practical and man them to prevent rad access to homes.
Surviving the first few weeks or even months will increase your chances of survival considerably. It sounds like you will be one of the survivors. I'm not looking forward to finding out what it's like living grid down, but it also seems inevitable.
